Redevelopment Resources

Downtown Asheboro Inc. is dedicated to economic development through historic preservation, and our team has valuable resources for redevelopment including:

  •  Historic Tax Credits: In 2022, Downtown Asheboro was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The district includes a total of 78 contributing structures that contain a combination of business, professional, institutional, retail, warehouse and residential uses and structures dating back to 1903.
A 20% federal income tax credit, and a 20% state income tax credit is available for eligible projects.

  • PRESERVE Asheboro Grant: This grant program is created to spur preservation based economic development in downtown Asheboro by supporting the acquisition of historic preservation consultant services for redevelopment projects in the district. Downtown historic structures are integral to the character of the community, but navigating historic incentive programs can be complex. This grant program aims to help downtown property owners leverage development incentives confidently with the support of a specialist. Learn more here.

  • Free Historic Facade Designs: Through a partnership with North Carolina Main Street and UNCG Department of Interior Architecture, fellows of the NC Main Street program provide design assistance for storefront rehabs and the adaptive reuse of upper story commercial spaces to downtown living apartments. These projects involve a mix of archival research, fieldwork documentation, and digital design work, using a variety of design software programs.
